It was built on what was formerly the Joseon Shrine, a stark reminder of the Japanese colonial period, in order to help lift the downtrodden national spirits. The present museum building was built in 2010 at the same location to mark the 100th anniversary of Ahn Jung-geun’s death. The new building is made up of twelve columns symbolizing the twelve members of the Dongui-danji-hoe, a secret organization set up by Ahn. The museum consists of three main exhibition halls, each displaying Ahn’s belongings and materials in chronological order from his birth to his death.
